MOUNTAIN BIKING: Upper Coyote Wash

← AZ SAN CARLOS RESERVOIR COOLIDGE DAM AZ Single Tracks →

Description

Explore at will. This area is full of threads and trails. I have ridden all the way north to Honey Bee Canyon, and south all the way to First Avenue on these trails and roads. Some sandy sections but not bad. There is an excavated Indian village along the way if you pay attention with tons of pottery sherds strewn about on the ground. You can cross under Tangerine Road and go up the hill to the large cell phone tower and continue to explore further south all the way to First Ave. in Oro Valley.

Directions

Coyote Wash is not really an official trail system but one I stumbled upon just riding around. There are lots of options. The best place to start is off of Rancho Vistoso Blvd. just north of the Safeway shopping center. Look for the "trail" sign hidden off the sidewalk on the right (east) side of the road--it is about 1/2 mile north of the Safeway. Get on this walking path (gravel) and follow it north until it turns east and goes downhill into a large wash. You'll know you are on the right trail if you come to a barbed wire fence with a green gate. Go through this, and when you come the Y intersection after another 1/4 or so, head north on the two-track.
